Archives Awareness Campaign

We launched our fifth annual campaign in November with the theme 'Take Your Place In History'. The aim of this year’s campaign is to celebrate community archives and the roles individuals and different groups including black and ethnic minorities have played in shaping local history.

Take Your Place in History illustrates how different groups have worked to bring about the change and raise awareness about social issues amongst decision makers and opinion informers.

Throughout the winter, archives across the UK are opening their doors to the public and will be holding a number of special and interactive events to celebrate the treasures lying in their collections and to emphasize the importance of archives in telling the histories of our past.

The events will bring home to people the relevance of archives to today’s society. They will also offer a fantastic chance for people to connect with their local history and learn more about their community.

We would encourage anyone who hasn't been to an archive before to at least start by visiting their local archive as there are so many wonderful treasures to be seen. Events are being held all over the place see www.archiveawareness.com/events for details.
