"Our Past - Your Future"
The Local Government Association and leading archive ambassadors, including National Council on Archives, the Society of Archivists and The National Archives this week launched a new publication "Our Past, Your Future" - A guide to local government archives to highlight how archives can enrich people’s lives and support local communities.
The guide aimed at local Councillors and the senior officers of local authorities in England seeks to raise awareness of the breadth of work and activity undertaken by local government archive services: in education & lifelong learning; social services; stronger communities and in promoting better record keeping and management in local councils.
A copy of the publication can be found here.

Archive Awareness Campaign for 2009
As archive services across the public, private and community sectors look to set their budgets for the coming year, the National Council on Archives and the Archive Awareness Campaign Team wanted to take this opportunity to announce the general theme for the AAC 2009.
The theme will be "Take Flight!". This theme is open to interpretation and lends itself to a wide variety of areas of archival work, whether in economic and industrial history; the impact of movement of peoples; innovation and ideas; engineering and science. The theme is designed to be as inclusive as possible, to bring in archives from across all sectors and thus enable more engagement with a wider variety of user groups. We want this theme to inspire and provide opportunities for fresh thinking in approaching how archive services work with AAC.
Further information will be issued in due course and a meeting of the AAC Working Group will take forward ideas around issuing guidance documents, providing more support to services in the field of press/pr exploitation and more suggestions around achieving real advocacy outcomes for AAC events and activities.
So, please do look out for this extra information and if you have not already done so, could you please provide us with a contact name for AAC-related matters at your archive? If possible, could you please email these details to Angela Owusu, PR Executive Officer for AAC to: angela.owusu@nationalarchives.gov.uk
