Burton Street Community History Project

Organisation: Langsett Foundation Ltd

Grant Award: Your Heritage (£49,500)

The Burton Street Community History Project explores the history of the former Langsett Road School and neighbourhood, using oral history, written reminiscence, photographs and personal documents. Situated in the Owlerton district of Sheffield, close to Hillsborough, Langsett Road School is now the Burton Street Project, a well-known and much valued part of the local community.

Outcomes

The project has now established a community archive with open access and an enthusiastic network of contributors. Further funding has enabled work to begin on an educational outreach project. The aims of this are to engage children in community research, to produce resource material for schools and to establish inter-generational work. The Archive can be accessed online at www.burtonstreethistory.org.uk
