What We Do

Work Plan for 2008-9

The NCA has approved a Three Year Strategy 2006-2009.

The following are the National Council on Archives’ key deliverable objectives for 2008-2009:

To improve the advocacy impact of archives by:

· Strengthening the advocacy base within Parliament through the formation of an All Party Group for Archives

· Delivering the 2008 Archive Awareness Campaign

· Promoting the results of the 2007 National Survey of Visitors to British Archives

· Holding the second national Community Archives Conference

To support the development of the sector by:

· Holding the annual PSQG Forum (2008 conference on workforce development)

· Holding a national conference on the effective use of research and statistical evidence in promoting the value of the archive sector

· Forming the PSQG Security and Access Working Group

· Promoting the results of the British Academy funded research project on the impact of Heritage Lottery Fund investment in developing the skills of those managing archives

· Continuing to provide training activities and one to one support for organisations applying for HLF funding

· Working with other professional bodies in the sector to streamline its structure and effectiveness
