Regional Archive Councils

Archives for London

The London Archives Regional Council (LARC) was created in October 1999 under the auspices of the National Council on Archives and was one of nine regional archive was councils. LARC was made up of representatives from the London region and national organisations reflecting both users and archive practitioners.

LARC merged with the Greater London Archives Network (GLAN) and the London Archives Users Forum (LAUF) to become a single body, Archives for London (AfL).

Almost one-third of all archive services are located in London representing a wealth of collections and specialist knowledge. Archives for London is working to deliver an action plan to support projects such as Access to Archives (A2A), training, in-depth studies of development potential in areas such as conservation, cataloguing and developing a regional film archive for London.

Archives for London, London Museums Agency (LMA) and London Libraries Development Agency (LLDA) are working together with MLA London to develop cross-domain working and the creation of a Regional Agency.
