Archive Sector Proposals

Archive Sector Proposals

In summer 2008 NCA and other organisations working within the sector commissioned independent consultants Firetail to undertake a review of the groups operating within the archive sector.

The review has now been completed and further discussion, between NCA, the Society of Archivists and the Association of Chief Archivists in Local Government, of the proposals is taking place. All relevant documents can be downloaded using the links on the left.

The Communications group agreed to circulate a briefing at the end of each cycle of meetings, summarising discussions so far. These briefings can be downloaded here.

Merger Update

The National Council on Archives, the Society of Archivists (SoA), and the Association of Chief Archivists in Local Government (ACALG) have voted in favour of merging to form the Archives and Records Association (UK and Ireland).

The new body will provide the sector with a louder voice to stakeholders and policy makers, position the sector to build on its existing strengths and move forward to face future challenges.
